Snow-White, Rust-Red The sky above Pripyat was an unbroken blanket of dull leaden grey. There was no sunlight to pierce the pervading chill of the air, to glisten off of the ice that had encased everything like a tomb.

The further Mama and Pilot travelled into the mountains, the worse a toll the journey took on the Pakpak's stamina. The thinning air in the high altitudes combined with the strain of climbing the slopes left her breathless almost constantly. Her companion frequently turned to check on her, tail flicking with impatience.

"Are you certain this is a good idea?" he asked for the fourth time. "You mentioned you don't even know what was taken from you, so it can't be all that important right? I am sort of in a hurry…"

I was asked to do an NPC for

so here you go~

Name: Riley

Gender: Female

Species: Numbat

Age: Twenty-Two

Height: 5'4"

Personalitly: Riley is spunky, fun-loving, and doesn't give a rat's ass what anyone things about her. She's also fiercely protective of her friends, and not afraid to confront guys three times her size and kick their nuts so hard they fly out their nose when the situation warrants it.

History - She is a graduate culinary arts major doing an internship under Vespera's private chef. When the idea for the Race of Aleria came up, it was decided that she would be given charge of feeding the contestants at checkpoints.

Other - Riley loves rock music. She is almost never seen without a chord leading from her pocket up to at least one ear (with the other ear unobstructed so she can talk to people.) Riley can often be heard singing some random rock song under her breath (or really loudly if she gets carried away). She also enjoys playing MMOs of the World of Warcraft or Halo bracket (whatever the applicable equivalent for Aleria may be). The blue in her bangs is not natural; she dyed them.

She's shorter than Dark, lol. Makes the image of her being the one to stop the childish thing from causing too much ruckus around her kitchen that much funnier :'D

I'm thoroughly amazed I hadn't checked this ref out yet, but then again, I had no clue she was an NPC rather than a contestant, eheh :'D

Yeah, not competing in this one, but I was asked to make an NPC so I did. If Chi tries anything, she's likely to get a a frying pan to the head. Riley is firm in the belief that the kitchen is not the place for horseplay, what with all the hot things and sharp implements, and she enforces this rule sternly.

But she's not afraid of food and as long as you aren't asking her to make something obscene then she'll be fine. She enjoys a good culinary challenge.

A frying pan to the head...that needs to FREAKING HAPPEN SOMETIME now, lmao (especially cause being a firey thing that can heal wounds, well, heat and sharp cooking implements hardly pose a significant threat) :'D I hope I get to make that happen, fffff X'D

The thing is exactly that: Chi cannot eat cooked or condimented food--she can only have raw animal products, which would pretty much mean she'd have to turn down most food or be in danger of indigestion or food poisoning :'D

Whatever, Riley would just be put out at the lack of challenge and throw raw beef at her.

She's fine with the meat cooked, why should she care about it being raw? She has to handle it raw in order to cook it you know.

As for her being able to heal or whatever, it would still be a problem if she sent a carving knife hurtling across the room and it impaled Mar-lynn or Arezo in the face. And even if she doesn't get burned when she spills the spaghetti sauce all over herself and the floor, the batch is still ruined and Riley still has to start over. She would not take such excuses.

I simply figured it'd be funny if she served her like everybody else and then was like 'oh...no cooked food?' or something like that. I simply fail at giving explanations and I've stated this before! ;A;

Ah, I see what you mean.

She should probably go to all the competitors beforehand and ask if they have any special needs, like food allergies or vegan diet or some such. But this is her first big solo assignment so she may not get it all right on the first try.

And don't get the wrong idea, Riley isn't mean. She just has no patience for idiots.

Also, lmao I know she isn't, but the problem is that Dark CAN be an idiot through and through (especially if she eats something that might get her as high as meth or something), so the frying pan to the head would be very justified :'D

Ha ha, I'm glad you like her! I had a lot of fun with her design.

She's generally pretty nice, she just doesn't take crap from people.
